Teaching

Soyoung Kim teaches students of all ages, from elementary to adult, and enjoys sharing her love of music with them.  Her approach to teaching is encouraging and positive, with a focus on a wide range of repertoire, mixing both the standard classical canon with more unusual, contemporary, and fun pieces to keep students engaged and interested.  She is most keen in sparking a life-long love of music in her students, whether they go on to seek careers in music, continue to play music for fun, or simply listen to music with a deeper appreciation.

Included in the lesson tuition are two recitals a year and studio classes to gain confidence and joy in sharing music; performance is a form of practice and the studio classes offer a safe environment for students to try out new repertoire and learn performance etiquette while having fun.  Participation in Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) evaluations and/or the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC) evaluations and competitions are also possibilities.

Soyoung has taught at the Garrison Forest School in Maryland and most recently at the United Nations International School in New York City where her students received distinction in both the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and the ABRSM.  She is currently accepting students into her private studio; please contact her for more details and information.
